The Key to Good Writing is…

I always thought that good writing came from the writing process. But since writing my first two books, I discovered the value of good editing. My editors see things that I missed in the writing process. They also help me cut out the excess.

My editor has said to me many times, “Why does the reader need to see that?” He helps me focus on what is crucial for the character development and plot of the story.

When I started this process, I took it personally when he would cut scenes from my chapters. But now, I see the value of the editing process. It makes my books better. And it has helped me become a better writer. After two books of working with my editor, I am able to see the issues myself and fix them before my books get to the editor. Relax and enjoy the process.
